Description
A set of four "thousand butterfly" pattern dishes, China, 19th century. Two sets of four available. The pattern 1000 butterflies is fairly rare in Chinese export porcelain. The butterfly symbolizes the warmth of summer and the harvest. I see some that is early and mid 19th century. Poorly painted examples show up again about 1920.
