Crichton & Co., English silver two-handled trophy or urn from 1917 in exquisite Georgian style with elegant proportions. The handles have an applied leaf design, adding to the grace of the design. The body has a beautifully engraved monogram and two applied bands. The cover has an ornamental finial atop. It measures 12 1/2'' in height by 12 1/2'' from handle to handle by 7 1/8'' in diameter, weighs an impressive 71.1 troy ounces, and bears hallmarks as shown.
Crichton & Co. was established around 1890 by Lionel Alfred Crichton. In 1920 the firm was active with premises in London (22 Old Bond street), New York (636 Fifth Avenue) and Chicago (622 South Michigan Avenue). The firm went out of business in the 1950s. The British Museum has Crichton pieces in its permanent collection.
