A finely painted and rather atmospheric work executed in oil on canvas, the painting is clearly of the Barbizon influence with it’s moody impressionism and chaotic palette. Light pierces the canopy of the trees in a dramatic and sparse way that leaves only glimmers of contrast on the dark forest floor. There is a hint of a painted inscription in the lower right corner, but it is illegible. The painting remains in fine conserved condition, retaining it’s original lining and in ready-to-present condition; we personally would change the frame, but the work itself is simply stunning.
