Description
Rare pierced bronze painting "Introspection" in patinated and engraved bronze and pewter with vibrant hand painted enamels by Philip & Kelvin LaVerne, American 1970's (Signed “Kelvin P. LaVerne” on bottom right). Pierced bronze paintings are a genre which was created by the LaVernes and are among their most complex and beautiful works. Behind the front of the painting, which has sections that have been delicately cut away by hand, is a back panel which adds color and depth to the work.

ALCHEMY: THE ART OF PHILIP AND KELVIN LAVERNE written by Evan Lobel with Kelvin LaVerne, published by Pointed Leaf Press in 2024, this artwork is shown in the section THE PAINTINGS on page 264. The caption reads, “ The 1970s INTROSPECTION is a pierced bronze painting in patinated and engraved bronze and pewter with hand-painted enamels.” There is an in-depth discussion of the pierced bronze paintings on pages 264-265.
