Description
An unusual pair of Italian silk embroidery and gouache painted paper pictures, both with scenes from Classical antiquity, one showing two warriors addressing an old man by a cave, the other with two men greeting each other in front of a tented encampment, the reverse with a paper label stating ‘Pair of exceptionally fine silk needlework pictures with gouache painted faces & limbs, sky etc, classical Roman subjects, circa 1810’, in gilt frames. Italian, circa 1810.
