    Lived/active: Belgium, Netherlands.
    Sheep in a Barn with Chickens.
    Signed (l.l); Corn Van Leemputten, also inscribed on verso.
    Oil on canvas.
    28″h x 33 1/2″ with frame.
    Excellent condition retaining original carved gilt frame.
    Provenance: Purchased in the late 19th c. Descended through the Charles S. Shultz family, Montclair, New Jersey The painting was found in untouched original condition and came directly from the Shultz House then deaccessioned by the Montclair History Center. Cornelius Van Leemputten is best known for his paintings of sheep and barnyard animals. The use of light and shadows seen here highlighting his figures exemplify his work.
