Great 18th-century religious painting, Saint Francis of Assisi
-
Description
Great Italian painting from the second half of the 18th century. Oil on canvas painting, on the first canvas, depicting Saint Francis of Assisi in ecstasy. The Saint is accompanied by a splendid angel holding a crucifix, flanked by a skull and a scourge, iconographic symbols linked to penance and meditation on the transience of life.
Saint Francis gazes intently at the crucifix and leans on a large book with the devotional inscription "Op. d. Francisci," alluding to the Saint's works. This exquisitely painted painting stands out for the expressiveness of the Saint's face and the sweetness of the little angel, transporting you to a mystical and serene atmosphere.
This canvas, with its powerful spirituality, is ideal for both collectors of sacred art and those wishing to enrich a space with a work capable of evoking devotion and meditation. The painting has already been restored, with the stretcher replaced and the color restored in small spots. It shows some signs of age, overall in a fair state of conservation. - More Information
