Large Spanish painting, signed by J. Amat and dated 1865. Oil on canvas artwork depicting Saint Francis of Assisi in ecstasy, artwork of exquisite artistry. Draped in his habit, the Saint is depicted kneeling next to a skull and a book, symbols of vanitas and meditation on the transience of life.

The composition and theatrical lighting recall Iberian devotional painting, reinterpreted in the 19th century. This evocative and highly decorative painting is suitable for refined, classic and modern settings. The 20th-century frame is carved and gilded wood, with some signs of aging. The painting has undergone restoration, including relining, replacement of the stretcher, and restoration of the color in some areas.

It has small tears and some signs of restoration (see photo). Overall, it is in fair condition. Internal dimensions: H 155 x W 105 cm.
