The Four Musea
-
Description
Daughters of Zeus and Mnemosyne each of the nine Muses occupies a creative niche. The Four Muses; Calliope, Clio, Erato and Euterpe represent Epic Poetry, History, Lyric Choral Poetry and Flute or PanPipe Music. Explicitly used in modern English to refer to an artistic inspiration the Muses have been worshipped throughout the entire area of the cradle of civilisation from Hellenistic times and continue undiminished. White Court Art is delighted to be able to offer this absolutely beautiful painting from the New York studio of Sax Berlin. Berlin created this work in 1998 and only now has he been able to part with it. These Muses are full of spirit and wisdom, gazing out onto our modern world with fascination, true beings of Olympus; "these things declare to me from the beginning, ye Muses who dwell in the house of Olympus, and tell me which of them first came to be". Sax Berlin is the only artist able to create pieces of such breathtaking beauty and intricate technique. He works with his own Muse to offer his Four Muses and we totally understand the special place this work has in his art and heart.
