RARE EARLY 18TH CENTURY LOUIS XV PROVINCIAL BURR ELM MAZARIN COMMODE
-
Description
A rare early 18th Century Louis XV provincial burr elm shaped front mazarin commode of excellent colour and proportions.
French Circa 1710.
Constructed with thick cuts of tight burr elm dowelled to the carcass, the rectangular burr elm panelled top with a fruitwood banding, over three inverted breakfront drawers retaining their original handles and escutcheons, flanked by shaped front styles terminating on splay feet.
The sides panelled with a shaped moulding.
Please note it is very rare to find a commode of this form being in burr elm. These commodes are called Mazarin because of the shaped front styles leading down to the feet, a design first introduced in the Louis XIV period. Offered in excellent condition and of extremely good colour.
