Alfred Bucknell, Attributed. Arts and Crafts Cotswold School Steel Lamp
Alfred Bucknell attributed blacksmith. A fine quality Arts and Crafts Cotswold School steel adjustable standard lamp with finely chased detailed decoration typical of Bucknell's work. The upper font cage with a Monart glass oil font.
At some point it has been converted to electricity, but without intruding on its original form.
Alfred Bucknell moved to Waterlane, started his career at Sapperton with Gimson after his potential for metal working had been spotted by Alfred Powell.
From 1903, Alfred Bucknell and Gimson worked together at Sapperton making items such as furniture fittings, latches, candle sconces, firedogs, floor and table lamps, ceiling and wall lights, and ecclesiastical fittings in brass, iron, polished steel and silver.
After Gimson's death, Alfred set up independently as a wheelwright and smith at home in Waterlane and was later joined by his son Norman, who continued and built on the tradition for quality and design established by his father. -
