Good and Rare George III Carved Walnut Corner Armchair
-
Description
Possibly by Gillows of Lancaster this interesting corner chair was clearly made to be an object of conversation. The back splats and rear cresting, original to the piece, are highly unusual for the profusion of carving including leaves drapery tassels and interlocking shapes with foliate decoration continuing to the knee of the front leg. The seat covered in a deep burgundy leather.
If Gillows are the makers, this would be an early production of theirs and probably privately commissioned around 1730-1740. -
