Brazilian Modern Twelve Chair Set in Hardwood & Leather, Sergio Rodrigues, 1960s
-
Description
Individual chairs are available for purchase. This set of twelve chairs features a solid Rosewood structure upholstered in black leather, imbuing them with an almost brutalist aesthetic. Designed specifically for Bloch Editors, a prominent Brazilian publishing and broadcasting conglomerate, these chairs were originally part of the modern furniture commissioned for Bloch’s headquarters in Sao Paulo. Renowned designers Sergio Rodrigues and Joaquim Tenreiro collaborated on their creation, emphasizing both style and functionality.
Each chair boasts a delicately curved backrest, enhancing ergonomic comfort during long meetings in the conference rooms they once graced. The original faux black leatherette upholstery has been faithfully recreated in genuine black leather, maintaining the set's original design intent. The rosewood frames have been refinished to reveal vibrant wood grains, showcasing their enduring beauty despite minor signs of age, primarily evident in the legs.
Overall, all chairs are in excellent condition, with many chairs still bearing Bloch’s heritage plaques on the backrests, preserving their historical significance and craftsmanship. With its unique style and design, this twelve dining chair set would make a striking addition to any home, blending functionality with artistic flair to create a focal point in any space. The gorgeous dining table featured in the images is also from Sergio Rodrigues for Bloch Editors and could fit up to 10-11 people nicely.
These chairs like this will look great in any type of environment, from mid-century to contemporary and modern design.
