This set of six dining chairs has an elegant appearance combined with distinctive design elements. For cabinetmakers in Europe, creating seating has operated as a blank canvas upon which to unleash their artistic interior design flair, creating family heirloom pieces and influencing future designers.

All furniture-making artisans were once known as cabinetmakers and mid-century Europe saw the most skilled and talented craftsmen creating artisanal pieces such as this set of six chairs. Each chair has a masterfully crafted stained beech wood frame bent in the back and straight in the front. This creates a dynamic look that is a treat from every angle. While having a classic shape, the chairs are distinctive thanks to their curved back legs resembling sabres that reach up to form the backs, and their backrests. The backrests are decorated with hollow cut-outs. The resulting “ears” on the chairs are connected by a single piece of wood. This simple but effective element gives these chairs a lot of personality and assure that they weren’t mass-produced but handcrafted. Another such detail is how the seats embrace the back legs, burrowing them into the fabric. The beautiful grain and pattern of the exotic wood frames are complimented by the beautiful fabric in which the chairs have been reupholstered.

The design and execution of these dining chairs show how the aesthetic and functional dimensions were of equal importance for the maker. European cabinetmakers in general were as sensitive to the use of furniture in everyday life as to the creation of innovative, timeless design.‎

In good vintage condition. Wear consistent with age and use. Small marks on the wood. The chairs have been reupholstered recently in a premium fabric. Each of our items can be re-upholstered by our in-house atelier in a fabric of choice. Please reach out for more information.
