J.L. George was the English name used by Shuang Hong Tai, one of several Chinese companies that made carved wooden furniture in the early 1900s. The furniture became popular with members of the international community living in Shanghai, and many pieces were exported to the West. The company moved to Hong Kong in the late 1940s, after the end of World War II, and continued to make carved furniture under the name J.L. George & Co. -
