Brutalist Oak Cabinet in the manner of De Coene Brothers, Belgium 20th Century

$ 13,300
  • Description
    Featuring a distinctive carved motif, this cabinet melds seamlessly with any style thanks to its elegant sense of whimsy. The oak form is elemental, enhanced by the carvings and the wood itself.

    In furniture design Brutalism inspired designers to create models with a look meant to project an air of strength and solidity. Like their Scandinavian contemporaries, albeit a bit later, Belgian manufacturers and designers gained a reputation for their high-quality craftsmanship and innovative designs, including this amazing cabinet, which combines traditional woodworking techniques. Like this rare cabinet demonstrates, cabinetmakers of the country were known for their use of high-quality materials such as walnut, oak, and mahogany, as well as their attention to detail and commitment to quality. The design is reminiscent of the artistry of the Coene brothers (De Coene Frères), and is defined by the graphic front, with characteristic diamond shaped hand carving. The wide surfaces and the strict rectangular look are perfect to showcase the artistry and craftsmanship of the designers. The cabinet’s four doors open to reveal shelves and plenty of storage space arranged on four levels. In the middle, wooden leaves can be pulled out to extend the storage space, or to prepare drinks, making this model an ideal bar cabinet. Leaving the focus on the beauty of the wood and the masterfully carved front, the cabinet is standing on a pedestal-like base that keeps it grounded and provides ample support. From the joinery to the woodworking, this model is exceptional in its every detail.

    Thanks to the outstanding aesthetic quality and craftsmanship, this cabinet is a timeless model. It is certain to stand out whether as an accent piece, or by complementing its surroundings thanks to its natural colour and organic aesthetic.
