Description
A French kingwood bureau plat late 19th/early 20th century in Louis XV style, with applied gilt-bronze mounts, the serpentine rectangular top with a green tooled leather inset above three drawers opposed by dummies, on cabriole legs, with a label: Mon L'HOSTE fondee en 1842/L'HOSTE & BERNEL. Succrs/ 4, Passage St-Pierre-Anelot, PARIS -ZL/TELEPHONE 279-04
Literature
J L'Hoste was a sculptor and cabinet maker who founded his first workshop at Rue Amelot in 1842. He and his brothers exhibited in the Expositions Universelles of 1867 and 1889. Charles Bernel succeeded him at the end of the 19th century and 'executa de nombreux et beaux meubles'. -
