AMERICAN CLASSICAL MAHOGANY CARD TABLE
Circa 1830-50 with rotating flip top
Item # 801HXG27P
This fine American Classical card table features a pair of full width planks of mahogany with integral molded ends that rotate 90 degrees and flip open on original brass hinges to create a broad card playing surface. Typical of the form, the apron is a finished box for storing game parts, accessible only by rotating the top. An attractive figured veneer is employed in the cove profile of the apron, flanked on either end with thin brass stringers. Tight and precise dovetails lock the back of the frame together, this raised over a thick tapered column over sabre legs with thick acanthus carvings of the solid terminating in cast animal paw castors. The legs dovetail into the thick column, this being yellow pine veneered in mahogany. It remains in fine condition with a beautifully refinished surface.
