-
Description
Each oval mirror plate within a beaded molded frame with gadrooned border, surmounted by a tied ribbon cresting above a chain and classical urn, the whole within a garland of husks with a pierced apron centered by a ram’s head and acanthus carving.
Typical of the neoclassical taste of John Linnell's work of the 1770's, this pair relates to examples of oval frames suspended from tied ribbon, chains and urns as seen in H. Hayward and P. Kirkham, "William and John Linnell Eighteenth Century London Furniture Makers", New York, 1980, vol. II, pp. 102-3, figs. 196-198.
