Ernest Archibald Taylor
Scottish, 1874 - 1951
Ernest Archibald Taylor (1874–1951) was a Scottish designer, artist, and architect closely associated with the Glasgow Style, a branch of the broader Art Nouveau movement. A contemporary of Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Taylor created furniture, stained glass, and decorative arts characterized by geometric forms, symbolic motifs, and elegant craftsmanship. He was a designer for Wylie & Lochhead before co-founding the furniture-making firm McNair & Taylor. Taylor’s work exemplifies the transition from Victorian ornamentation to modern design sensibilities, making him a significant figure in early 20th-century decorative arts.
