Description
Pair of Antique Eclectic Style Onyx and Marble Pedestals
French, late 19th Century
Dimensions: Height 114cm, width 34cm, depth 34cm
Crafted from onyx and red marble, this pair of superb pedestals are designed in an eclectic style, combining elements of the Neoclassical, Rococo and Renaissance.
Each pedestal is supported by four ormolu feet, which support a square red marble base. The base features an egg-and-dart ormolu band, with further ormolu mounts to the shaft. The central shaft of each pedestal is rectangular in shape, with painted porcelain plaques to the top and bottom. These plaques are painted in the soft Rococo style, depicting couples in countryside settings, and are surrounded by vibrant multi-coloured champlevé enamel detailing. The pedestals are surmounted by flared square marble and onyx tops.
There are stamps reading 'Gabrol / GB' to the ormolu mounts. -
