Description
Functional art "Moloko" armchair designed by London-based artist Jonathan Trayte. This piece was on view in his exhibition in Brussels, Belgium in 2018. The Item is made of powder-coated steel, stainless steel, birch plywood, foiled pigskin, cowhide, raccoon fur, goatskin, and upholstery. The functional Artist is represented by Friedman Benda, an art gallery that intersects contemporary design, craft, architecture, fine art, and cutting-edge technological research. With locations in New York and Los Angeles, the gallery’s exhibitions, publications and collaborations with institutions have played a vital role in the development of the contemporary design market and scholarship since 2007.
Drawing inspiration from the surreal aspects of seemingly-mundane objects in our daily life, Jonathan Trayte’s approach is largely informed by our global language of consumption and the manipulation of consumer decision-making. Using a wide range of materials, methods and processes, his work explores the psychology of desire through surface, material, light and color. In thinking of food as a basic material, he uses castings and facsimiles to examine the many ways in which we perceive and utilize our resources. - More Information
