Description
Available today, this sculptural Brazilian Modern four chair set in hardwood & Black Leather by Giuseppe Scapinelli, 1950s Brazil is nothing less than spectacular!
Each dining chair features a Caviuna hardwood structure with a tall backrest in Italian black leather and four toothpick legs with tapered brass finish. The wood has been refinished but besides the marks of age, these chairs are ready for another 70 years more. Attached are a few images of the chairs we took in their original state for reference.
Two chairs of the set are showcased in our gallery next to a large Carlo Hauner dining table, also in Caviuna (and very similar wood tone) and they looks nothing but spectacular (images attached).
This effortlessly sleek chair set can blend into almost any type of contemporary, mid-century modern, boho chic, or modern environment. A beautiful set like this, will add a touch of mid-century modern swagger to any home!
Giuseppe Scapinelli was born in 1891 in Modena, Italy, but like many of his Italian fellows, he crossed the ocean and immigrated to Brazil where he started a new life. An accomplished painter, ceramist, and sculptor, he began his career as a furniture designer in the early 1950s.
Scapinelli was both a furniture maker and retailer in 1950s-1960s in São Paulo. His futuristic style is easily recognizable because of the curvy lines and soft shapes, inspired by the Italian design of the 1940s, a departure from the mainstream designs of his fellow retailers. His pieces are beautifully crafted in Brazilian traditional wood. He designed and produced many unique pieces for distinctive São Paulo homes. Scapinelli died in 1982. -
