Antique Spanish oil painting of the Alcázar of Seville by Tomás Aceves

$ 15,000
  • Description
    Antique Spanish oil painting of the Alcázar of Seville by Tomás Aceves
    Spanish, Late 19th Century
    Canvas: Height 39cm, width 24cm
    Frame: Height 63cm, width 48cm, depth 7cm

    This striking 19th century painting by Spanish artist Tomás Aceves captures a richly detailed view of the courtyard within the Alcázar of Seville, part of the historic Palace of King Peter.

    Aceves brings the historic site to life through vivid colours and expressive brushwork. His use of brighter tones than typically seen in similar architectural scenes adds vibrancy and depth to the composition. The ornate patterns and decorative features inside the building are painted with exceptional precision, reflecting the artist’s deep appreciation for traditional design.

    A red tasselled cushion occupies the foreground, infusing the scene with a bold splash of colour that draws the viewer's eye. One of the most compelling elements of the painting is the distant glimpse beyond the archways and columns - an intentional focal point that sparks the imagination and evokes the mystery of what lies outside the palace walls.

    Signed ‘T. Aceves / Sevilla’ in the lower left corner, this artwork once served as a treasured keepsake for travellers visiting Spain. Today, it offers timeless appeal as a refined decorative piece and a noteworthy addition to any collection of antique or Orientalist art.

    Similar, larger, composition by the same artist sold at Sotheby’s, The Orientalist Sale, 25 April 2023, lot 67 for £27,940.
