A striking hand-modeled and vividly glazed Palissy-style majolica charger from Caldas da Rainha, Portugal, attributed to José Alvaro, circa 1930. The centerpiece features a boldly rendered red lobster in high relief, surrounded by naturalistic details of mussels, seaweed, and textured sand, all executed in a rich palette of deep greens, cobalt blues, and earthy browns. Characteristic of the Caldas tradition established by Rafael Bordallo Pinheiro, this piece exemplifies the artisanal ceramic production of the early 20th century in Portugal, blending sculptural dynamism with decorative functionality.
