A mid-20th century French oil on canvas painting of assorted red apples and green pears on a fabric draped table, the composition is a modern and fresh interpretation of a classic still-life arrangement. The objects on display come to life in a vibrant palette of complementary colors given dimension to their perceived forms by a variety of techniques to layer and texturize the paint for depth. Contrasting against the monochromatic background (and porcelain coffee pot) are the intense, vermillion reds of the apples, against the softness of the chartreuse pears, with a curious draped form in fiery orange to the lower right.
