Description
Japonesque mixed metal sterling silver bowl. Made by Gorham in Providence in 1881. Curved sides with allover spot hammering. Applied copper and silver gilt ornament: Rim overhung with strawberry vine; opposite a bonsai branch. Succulent fruit and exotic vegetation with two butterflies and one bird. Three splayed supports.
Fully marked including maker’s stamp, date letter, no. 1725, and phrase “Sterling & Other Metals”. Very good condition nice nice patina.
Overall dimensions: H 4 7/8 x W 10 1/8 x D 9 in. Gross weight: 20 troy ounces. #CC473 -
