French 18th Century Carved Oak Buffet à Deux Corps
-
Description
Dimensions: 95” H x 57 ½” W x 20 ⅜” D
A stunning French oak buffet à deux corps (cabinet in two sections) from the 18th century, designed with features and style that suit many decorating tastes and storage needs for the modern interior. The rounded cornice softens the impressive scale and height of the case, seeming to rise on quarter-round fluted pilasters at the corners outlined in ribbon-twist carvings to frame two paneled doors. Another line of ribbon-twist carvings outline the different panels of the doors: a narrow foliate motif along the top sits over two rectangular panels given further definition by egg & dart carvings. The doors open by working lock and key to reveal an interior fitted with two shelves, 13 ¾” deep. In the base section–behind the locking doors–there is one shelf over two small drawers (like a linen press) measuring 17” deep. Cleaned and polished with a French paste wax this antique storage piece is ready for your interior. Please view the detailed images to see more. -
