MAI, SINCE 2006 Underlying Concept For A Unique Shop In 2006 West Houston experienced the opening of a new-concept antiques and interiors store. Open to the public and the trade, MAI | Memorial Antiques & Interiors featured quality European and American antiques, bringing together approximately 30 dealers known for their unique and hard-to-find inventory. Word quickly spread about this new store where design and display was as important as inventory. Each vendor area was always creatively arranged in “magazine-ready vignettes.” Customers were known to drop by frequently for the inspiration, as an escape from it all; many came often because, in their words, “There’s always something new to see at MAI.” Unique And Inspirational Window Displays Demonstrate How To Design MAI has especially been recognized for it’s inspirational window displays. The first location on I-10, came with 5 large windows clearly visible to the driving public. Creative home design was displayed in these windows to the delight of drivers who often parked in front of the windows in order to take in the amazing interior design displays. Today in our new location at the Houston Design Center, MAI continues this tradition. We maintain 5 window displays with varying current design options. These change monthly. All items on display are available to our customers. Monthly, local guest designers also provide their unique design vision as part of the ongoing “Guest Designers Series”. MAI Storefront Relocation And Continued Inspiration – Still Open To Public And Trade MAI relocated in 2017 just off the Katy Freeway at The Houston Design Center. MAI has 22,000 square feet of showroom space occupied by 45+ small businesses owned independently by interior designers and antique vendors. All vendors share a common sales structure. The store is now known as an interiors destination like no other, offering a wide range of styles and the latest looks. Current, new furnishings and décor are mixed with unique antiques, original contemporary art, custom designs in lighting and furniture, and mid-century finds. MAI’s staff and vendors welcome both retail customers and the trade who visit from Houston and all points in Texas, the U.S. and across the pond. Recognized As Top Independent Houston Business MAI, locally owned and locally grown has been identified in numerous publications thru the years, as a top independently owned business in Houston. MAI still houses many of the same vendors who started out with MAI 15 years ago in addition to many inspirational new businesses. General Manager Kathy Swartzfager notes, “Today MAI is known as a store full of ‘the mix.’ We have a diverse inventory and show our customers how to combine today’s ‘contemporary’ look with fine old pieces. We also specialize in reviving old pieces with a modern face lift. This is MAI today!”
