San Francisco, a West Coast cultural hub equally famous for its progressive creative communities as it is for its weather, houses the aptly named FOG Design+Art fair. Returning for its fourth edition, FOG Design+Art is a vibrant, five-day celebration of the most significant creators and contributors in the worlds of visual art and design, and has quickly become a must-see event for collectors across the world despite its relative newcomer status.

Forty-five leading international galleries and outstanding 20th-century and contemporary design dealers (both new and returning), including Magen H Gallery, Carpenters Workshop Gallery, Hostler Burrows, Lebreton Gallery, Friedman Benda, Jason Jacques Gallery, Demisch Danant Gallery, and many more, will assemble to showcase an array of furniture, fine art and design objects in the spacious Fort Mason Center venue.

Special programming for FOG 2017 features lectures, panel discussions, screenings, and conversations with today’s most compelling designers and artists—including Sterling Ruby, Tomás Saraceno, and Trevor Paglen—presented by the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Curran Theater, the Cantor Arts Center at Stanford University, and the San Jose Museum of Art. Highlights include an ArtBites presentation on female tastemakers in art and culture; a special screening of the HBO documentary Brillo Box, an Oscar-shortlisted film which traces the journey of a family’s Andy Warhol painting; as well as pop-up dining from A16, a favorite among foodies and known for their famous wood-fired pizzas.

Internationally acclaimed architect David Adjaye, designer of the recently-opened National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, D.C., will be honored with the 2017 FOG Innovators Award. The architect will appear in conversation with designer Yves Béhar at the Innovators Luncheon on Thursday, January 12.

A special entryway installation, 21POP, by renowned San Francisco-based designer Stanlee Gatti, is an annual fair staple that features a single material each year. This year’s edition will be created from flowers, and feature artisans who specialize in floral-themed designs.

The Preview Gala Wednesday evening will continue to benefit the SFMOMA’s exhibitions and educational programs, which serve more than 60,000 students, teachers, and families annually. Guests to the Gala will enjoy culinary creations, design-centric cocktails and live music, plus exclusive access to the fair’s vast assemblage of design objects, furniture, and fine art before opening to the general public from January 12–15. As a special treat, genre-defying costume designer Machine Dazzle will also be creating costume pieces live during the gala. Preview Gala ticket packages start from $175. General admission tickets, which are good for reentry throughout the fair, are available for purchase online for $20, or at the door for $25.
