Frank Bowling

Sir Frank Bowling OBE RA is a British-Guyanese painter known for his abstract works. He was born in 1936 in Georgetown, Guyana, and moved to London in 1953. Bowling attended the Royal College of Art from 1959 to 1962, where he studied under Frank Auerbach and Leon Kossoff. In 1966, he was a founding member of the British section of the 'New Generation' movement, alongside David Hockney and R.B. Kitaj. In 2008, he was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire, and in 2018 he became a Royal Academician. Bowling has been the subject of major retrospectives at the Tate Britain, London, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, and his work is held in numerous public collections, including the Tate, the British Museum, and the Arts Council Collection.
