Jan-Paul Meulendijks
Netherlander, 1972
Jan-Paul Meulendijks, b. Netherlands, 1972. Creator of copulent objects, eye candy and conversation pieces.
"I want to create with no concessions and fully explore and crystallize the ideas I have. One idea turns into a clean, sleek designed table, the other a sculptural object without a specific function. Recurring themes and directions of thought include the beauty of multiplicity, reinterpretation of icons, exploring the bounderies of new materials, and creating the new from the existing."
After graduating with a degree in product design in 1998, he started his independent design studio, working as an extern designer of furniture, lighting and other interior products for various international clients, along with commercial and private commissions. After mainly designing for other companies, the focus is now in his personal label:
"J A NP A U L"
Searching for singular marvel in multiplicity and repetition. Created as a platform for more personal, conceptual, eclectic and experimental designs, crossing over bounderies between design and art. Setting work free from boxes and demands. The collection consists of objects, furniture, lighting and functional art, made in small series, limited editions and one-of-a-kind pieces. Organically growing and carefully directed, the small and exclusive collection is produced in the Netherlands.
