Max Steven Grossman

Colombian, 1971
Max Steven Grossman, born in Barranquilla, Colombia, in 1971, initially pursued engineering, graduating from the University of Philadelphia in 1994. However, his true passion for photography soon emerged. In 2000, he earned a Master of Arts degree specializing in photography from New York University and the International Center of Photography.

Grossman's unique background in engineering and the arts has shaped his creative photography, blending elements of reality and imagination. His renowned series, "Bookscapes," features digitally composed libraries that exist solely in his photographs. By reorganizing images of different bookshelves, Grossman creates thematic "Bookscapes," inviting viewers to form personal connections based on their relationship with the theme.

Another series, "Seascapes," utilizes a consistent beach background juxtaposed with various elements to evoke different emotional responses. Some compositions feature a semi-truck on the beach, while others depict dilapidated buildings. Grossman incorporates elements from his other series, such as "Bookscapes," into these images, creating a seamless blend of reality and fiction.

Grossman's work has been exhibited globally, including at prestigious venues such as the Beatriz Esguerra art gallery in Bogota, Colombia, the Museum of Modern Art in Cartagena and Barranquilla, Colombia, as well as at international art fairs and foundations in Spain, Hong Kong, and Argentina. His art offers viewers an escape from reality, challenging perceptions and blurring the lines between what is possible and what is imagined.
