Philippe Charles Jacquet
French
Philippe Charles Jacquet is not just a painter; he is a visionary creator. His art transcends mere landscapes, blending reality with imagination to create compositions that resonate deeply with the viewer's subconscious. Inspired by the rugged beauty of Brittany's coasts and estuaries, Jacquet's work exudes a sense of the sublime, captivating audiences with its surreal and idealized quality.
Trained as an architect at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs, Jacquet's background is evident in his meticulously symmetrical and geometric landscapes. However, he infuses these architectural compositions with rich colors and a diverse range of textures, from glassy waters to weathered barge hulls, adding depth and intrigue to his work.
Jacquet's painting technique is as unique as his artistic vision. Working with gloss paint, an industrial medium, he starts by applying a uniform off-white base to plywood surfaces, achieving a remarkably smooth finish. Each area of his compositions is treated differently, with some textures created through layers of transparent paint and others by delicately scratching the surface with a razor blade.
The houses that often feature in Jacquet's paintings are meticulously crafted, with each structure first composed on paper before being transferred onto the canvas. These architectural elements serve as poignant reminders of human presence in Jacquet's expansive, dreamlike landscapes.
Currently residing and working in Pantin, a suburb north of Paris, Jacquet has exhibited his work in solo and group shows across France. He was awarded first prize at the Plastic Arts Exhibition in Melun, showcasing the high regard his work is held in the art community. M Galerie is proud to introduce Philippe Charles Jacquet's work to the American market, offering art enthusiasts the opportunity to experience his visionary creations.
