2 Volumes. Austen Henry Layard, Nineveh and its Remains. First US Edition. Bound in 3/4 navy morocco with covers displaying an ornate Egyptian depiction of a God. Raised bands with panels displaying gilt-tooled borders and label lettering. All of the edges are gilt. Includes an account of a visit to the Chaldaean Christians of Kurdistan, and the Yezidis, or Devil-Worshipers; and an inquiry into the manners and arts of the ancient Assyrians. Includes a frontispiece depicting an ancient scene of the destruction of monuments. Published by George P. Putnam in New York, 1849.
