Description
20 Volumes. William Shakespeare, The Works. Bound for Major Henry Arthur Johnstone in full pink morocco with covers displaying the classic detailing of Mr. Johnstone's personal library. Those details being a seal containing his initials, along with a helmet and two swords as he was a major in the Royal Field Artillery. At the top, there are 3 emblems regarding the book's topic, and in that this is Shakespeare, it is theatrical masks. All of these cover details are decorated in gilt-tooling. The spine displays label lettering, 2 more of the mask details, and a wreath detail, all gilt-tooled. The top edges are gilt with brown morocco endpapers that display the seal of the owner engraved into the leather. This is a more detailed seal showing a large sailboat, an anchor, the owner's name fully spelled out and a flag coming off of the sailboat's mast that says "Ex-Libris". This edition was edited by William Aldis Wright. Published by Macmillan & Co. in London & New York, 1893.
