Description
8 Volumes. Edward Gibbon, The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire. Bound in full tan calf with the covers displaying a floral border and a central crest, both gilt-tooled. The spines display raised bands, ornate floral panel detailing, and label lettering, all gilt-tooled, as well as a red label. All of the edges are marbled with marbled endpapers. There are notes from Dean Milman and M. Guizot as well as portraits and maps included. This edition was edited with additional notes by William Smith. Published by John Murray in London, 1855
