Description
KENNEDY, John F.
The Strategy of Peace.
Edited by Allan Nevins.
Stock Code 115525
New York, Harper & Brothers, 1960
$9,753 USD
Inscribed by the President. A fantastic signed presentation copy of this collection of essays and speeches by John F. Kennedy on his foreign policy strategy, inscribed by the President 'To Herman Rosselott with my every good wish John Kennedy'.
The book was published to coincide with Kennedy's campaign for the Democratic Party presidential nomination, which despite concerns over his relative youth and inexperience, he won on the first ballet in July that year. It relays Kennedy's concerns over the alleged 'missiles gap' between the United States and Soviet Union, and the lack of an effective 'strategy for peace that is relevant to the new world', where the policy of containment no longer seemed feasible (p.3). With an introduction by the historian Allan Nevins, a co-organiser of the 'Professors for Kennedy' campaign group.
The recipient, Herman Rosselott, may have been the Herman J. Rosselott who stood for election as a District Delegate for the Democratic Primary for Ross County, Ohio in May 1968.
First edition, later printing, (date code C-K), signed presentation inscription by the author; 8vo (22 x 15 cm); inscribed in pen to front free endpaper recto; publisher's black cloth, upper cover with publisher's blindstamped device, spine lettered in orange and red, minor wear to extremities, fore-edge uncut, bottom-edge rough trimmed, unclipped photographic dustjacket, cup ring indentations to upper cover, edges a little chipped and frayed, very good; xv, [1], 233, [1]pp. -
