1930s Art Deco Streamlined Neoclassical Figurative Exotic Marble & Bronze Clock

This stunning and dramatic Art Deco clock was realized in France circa 1930. It features a demilune skyscraper style body consisting of two streamlined sides with a raised stepped tier in the center with a slightly convex top. The borders of the geometric forms are traced in exotic black marble with expressionistic veining in contrasting golden tones. Bronze plaques occupy the centers of these panels with stylized mannerist depictions of nude male forms crouching and facing one another in perfect symmetry. The man in the left panel strikes a drum, while the man in the right plays a pan flute surrounded by trees- all in splendid relief. The foliage of these trees recurs in a streamlined panel above the circular clock. The clock features floral and crosshatch detailing as well as highly stylized numbers all presented with vivid dimensionality. With its uncompromising attention to detail and sumptuous use of materials throughout, this piece embodies the elegance and glamour of High Style Art Deco at its finest. It would be a winning addition to any style of interior from classic Deco to contemporary. It is in excellent vintage condition.
