Description
A charming late 19th century French engraved miniature oval carriage clock with original travelling case.
The petite miniature oval gilt brass engraved case is raised on a triple plinth and has bevelled glass windows on all sides so that the movement can be seen from all angles. The original silvered and brass platform escapement is visible through an oval window at the top. The clock is surmounted by a shaped and engraved carrying handle. To the reverse is a full-length door allowing access to the movement.
The rectangular white enamel dial has a Roman chapter ring with five-minute and minute divisions. The time is indicated by a pair of finely cut blued-steel hands.
The eight-day single barrel movement has a silvered cylinder platform escapement with hairspring balance and regulation.
The clock comes with its original leather-covered wooden traveling case with a glazed viewing window to the face and is lined on the inside including the pocket in which the winding key is stowed.
