Description
This exquisite Art Deco Machine Age clock was realized in Switzerland by the esteemed jewelry company Udall and Ballou circa 1935. It features a rhombus form brass body with black and celadon skyscraper style detailing; iconically Art Deco numbers and stylized zig-zag hands on the gold hued face; and a tiered skyscraper style onyx Base. With its classic Art Deco motifs (and materials), this piece is sure to delight discerning collectors of the period as well as those with a penchant for truly special objects. Its sophisticated palate and clean modernist lines ensure that it would be a winning addition to any interior space, regardless of the style of decor. The piece is marked "Udall & Ballou Swiss 8 Days" and is in working condition.
Established in 1888, Udall and Ballou grew to become one of the best known and most prestigious jewellers in New York during the second quarter of the 20th century. Most celebrated for their wonderful Art Deco designs, the company started as jewelers and silversmiths offering a range of pieces from exquisite diamond rings to fine time pieces and sterling tea services. The shop was located on 5th Avenue and later, as their success grew, they expanded to Palm Beach, Florida and Bellevue Avenue in Newport Rhode Island. Excellent vintage condition.
Switzerland, circa 1935.
