AN EXCEPTIONAL FRENCH ORMOLU BRONZE MANTEL CLOCK BY VICTOR PAILLARD

$ 38,000
  • Description
    This exceptional 19th-century French gilt bronze mantel clock crafted by Victor Paillard (1805-1886) stands as a pinnacle of artistic mastery and horological expertise. Its urn-shaped case, crowned with a pomegranate finial, is flanked by allegorical figures embodying Geography and Astronomy—one figure holding a globe while the other holds a scroll.

    Marked with the signature "VICTOR PAILLARD FT. DE BRONZES A PARIS" on the white enamel dial, this clock bears the distinctive stamp "V.P." beneath its exquisite case

    For an illustration of the 18th century model by Etienne Martincourt refer to P. Kjellberg, Encyclopedie de La Pendule Française du Moyen Age au XXe siècle, 1997, pp. 214-215. This clock is now in the permanent collection of the J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles, California
