Description
A well carved wood Santo from Spanish Colonial period circa 19th century, likely Mexico in origin. It depicts a saint in flowing black robe who rips it open to reveal its bare chest. sectional construction with head and hands carved separately in great details, glass or resin eyes for realistic effect. The robe is masterfully carved with its natural cascading fabric and belt around the waist. A brass aureola mounts on the back, which is in excellent condition therefore may be of a later replacement. Wood pedestal if of a later period.
