Description | White porcelain vase by Tapio Wirkkala for Rosenthal Germany, c. 1968 Tapio Wirkkala for Rosenthal. Matte relief slip molded porcelain bottle with glazed and matte elements and glazed interior. Model 3040/24 Signed Rosenthal Germany, Studio-Linie. Tapio Wirkkala signature and model number incised into the base under the glaze. Tapio Wirkkala 1915-1985 graphic artist, designer, and interior designer, was a major figure in the history of twentieth century design. His freelance collaboration with Rosenthal began in 1956. He produced hundreds of designs for their table top lines and their “limited art series” Studio Linie. The work included flatware, glass and table service pieces, along with hundreds of designs for the studio linie, of which this bottle is one. Rosenthal was one of the first companies to work with established artists and designers to make their products. Their dedication to artistry made them into a leading manufacturer.
