Sea Shell Decorated Photo Frame from Tanzania East Africa 1950's
-
Description
An absolutely stunning East African photo frame dating to the 1950's, it was made in Tanzania as a tourist item using hundreds of shells (many exclusively found in Tanzania) to create a stunning decorative display, to one end a huge palm tree, to the other end there are four heart shaped spaces for photos, surrounded by intricately crafted flowers, stars and shapes all made up of various shells, some of which have been hand painted to accentuate the decoration.
It is highly likely that some of these shells have been lost and replaced over the years, and a few of the larger shells to the bottom of the frame have small chips and holes, but these in no way detract from the beauty of this incredible piece of hand crafted bohemian art.
