18TH CENTURY JARDINIÈRE, FAÏENCE DE LILLE
Faïence (tin-enameled earthenware) rectangular planter decorated with lambrequins, garlands and scrolling flowers in blue
on a milky-white ground. The whole raised on a pied douche with mask handles either side and a zinc liner.
The piece has it's early 20th century inventory label on the inside still “Edouard PAPE, 174 r du Faubourg St Honore, Paris”.
France, mid 18th century.
Edouard Pape (1870 - 1949) was a renowned French expert and collector of antiques, writing books on faience and other subjects.
