Molded copper, iron rods, cast zinc head and feet.
Excellent condition, some wear and loss to the original gilt, retaining an exceptional verdigris surface, minor imperfections on the sphere.
Provenance: Private Collection; Christie’s Important Americana; Purchased from Fred Giampietro, New Haven, Connecticut, 1996.
This rare and imposing size eagle weathervane, having swept-back wings perched on a sphere is complimented with its remarkable state of preservation. The full cast zinc head and taloned feet, coupled with the form identifying this weathervane to be made by A.L. Jewell & co. For similar weathervanes made by A.L.
