American Victorian Rococo sterling silver and leather letter box, ca 1880. Rectangular base with straight sides and slant hinged cover with curved front. Applied open silver ornament in form of cooing doves, chubby-cheeked baby faces, and bare-bottomed cherubs adroitly covered by leafing scrolls. Central cartouche engraved with interlaced script monogram. Interior silk lined with fitted compartments for correspondence, pens, postage stamps and various ephemeral mementoes. Marked “Sterling 1754”. Very good condition.
