Antoine Louis Barye Tigre Qui Marche 17”

$ 9,000
  • Description
    ANTOINE LOUIS BARYE (FRENCH 1795-1875)
    Tigre Qui Marche; The Walking Tiger is an iconic Barye bronze depicting the fierce and elegant tiger Barye studied in the Paris zoo in the early nineteenth century and one of a pair with the Lion Qui Marche which I am also offering on this platform. A discount will be offered if you purchase the pair. Pairs are difficult to come by and collectors often scramble to complete them. There is a smaller 10 inch version of this bronze made later into the 20th century due to the demand of these original larger 19th century versions. This Barye also has the iconic green patina seen in different lights with brown in other lighting conditions. These larger sculptures come up one to ten to the smaller 10 inch versions meaning this one wont last long.
    Greenish brown patinated bronze
    Bronze: 8.5 Inches Tall, 17 Inches wide, 4 Inches Deep
    Weight: 5.2 kg (11.4 lb),
    The Hardwood Base is included.
    signed Barye and marked with F. Barbedienne foundeur foundry mark. Marked underneath with 8446 and SNG
