Beautiful, high-quality late Biedermeier casket box from southern Germany, circa 1840.
Mahogany and (probably walnut) burl wood veneer on oak and maple.
Numerous inlays in maple and ebony, including a surrounding meander band and a finely inlaid octagonal star in the center of the lid and quarter stars in the corners.
Inside in oak at the bottom with two small removable drawers.
A mirror is inserted on the inside of the lid, with a surrounding gold-plated frame.
Original functional lock with side barbs.
Restored condition, shellac finish, polished. Lid slightly warped, causing the latch to not lock properly.
